January 12, 2012 Day To PrayWe will not have a Sunday Gathering on Sunday the 15th. Instead, we want to invite you to worship with us on our Day To Pray. This is a time where we'll take the opportunity to fast and pray throughout the day. This way even though we may not all be together physically, we can still worship together as a community. Here's how it'll work: On Sunday the 15th we'll fast together through breakfast and lunch (except of course our pregos and nursing moms- you ladies make sure you're eating ;-)). Drink water, coffee, juice or tea throughout the day and we'll break our fast by eating dinner. Fasting is a practical way to depend on Jesus and to be reminded that He's our provider. As you get hungry, take a minute to pray. As your stomach tells you it's hungry, use it as an opportunity to ask Jesus to make our souls more hungry for Him and His mission.
Here's some specific stuff to be praying for throughout the day: - Start your day by taking some time to praise God for who He is and all that He has made. If you can, take a step outside and take in your surroundings. Breath in the air, listen to the sounds, what has God made around you? What can you praise Him for? - Consider the areas that God has been faithful this past week and this past month. Take some time to thank Him for His faithfulness. - Pray that God would grow our hearts to follow after Him. - Pray that God would grow our hearts to see His Gospel change our community. - Pray that He would give us boldness in our weaknesses and give us strength in the areas where we have fear when it comes to re-centering our lives around His Gospel. - Ask God to make clear areas that He would like you to live on mission with Him. Who does this involve? Take some time to pray for them. - Ask that God would give TWC unique and influential ways to serve our community. Let's pray together that we would have specific opportunities to proclaim and live in light of the Gospel in our community. Let's also pray that God would graciously add to our number people who believe in Him as a result of our work. - Where do you have need this coming week? Take time to lift this up to Our Father and ask that He'd give you provision where you are weak and have need. Let's pray together that through our areas of need, He'd grow our belief in the Gospel this week.
Consider meditating on Psalm 139:23-24 Let's ask God to search our heart and expose to us anything keeping us from following Him this week. Let's also pray that He would lead us in His way that lasts forever.
We've also got a PDF below that you can print out if you're traveling or away for this Sunday. RESOURCES

Lately we've been talking about what it looks like to be Gospel people who love our city and seek to serve. This is a message by Tim Keller (who wrote The Prodigal God) discussing how hearts that are being transformed by the Gospel should begin to value justice (loving the city, serving the poor, helping the outcasts, etc.) If you've got a half hour this weekend, check this video out. Questions To Consider as You Watch & Reflect: What is Justification by Faith? What is Justice? How Are the Two Connected? Where Is This Talked About in the Bible? How Can We Live This Out in Our Context?
